Especially with the importance that experience has in infantry combat. <br />Every solider not lost during a combat mission provides several benefits: he's not lost as an asset during the mission, can learn from his mistakes and must not be replaced (including training, equipment and so on). Plus his eventual replacement can learn to be a skilled worker and provide goods and services to the Army and State.
